Sixth Sense: Vista Series news added to the "DVD" section.
No new extras will be included on the disc, just a new package. Sounds like a dumb idea to me!

According to Dark Horizons, Oscar-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix (Gladiator, The Yards) will replace the ailing Mark Ruffalo (one of Phoenix's competitors in the Best Supporting Actor category at this year's Academy Awards) in writer-director M. Night Shyamalan's supernatural drama Signs. The report indicates that Phoenix will play star Mel Gibson's brother. (Shouldn't it be as his son?!) Circlemakers.org claims that the approximately nine-week shoot is scheduled to begin September 13 with the bulk of filming taking place "on 100 acres of corn fields leased to the production until the end of the year by Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Pennsylvania." They also report that additional filming will be done in parts of New York state and in Newton, PA.

Actor Mark Ruffalo, who joined the cast of M. Night Shyamalan's Signs last June, has been forced to drop out of the project due to illness.

Variety reports today that Ruffalo had a minor cyst removed from his inner ear (ewww!). Thankfully, Ruffalo's representatives reported that the operation was a success and that he expects to be back 100% soon just not in time to be part of Signs.

The studio is expected to find a replacement for Ruffalo within the next few days. The film is currently set to start shooting in October.

Signs deals with the appearance of mysterious crop circles on a family farm in Bucks County, PA, but the rest of the story is shrouded in secrecy.

One thing we do know is that the film, while primarily set in rural PA, will have an international twist. Coming Attractions reports that the casting directors are seeking Indian men, all ages and types, for a scene in the film. The men must be able to believably portray farmers in India. One could easily presume that the scene involves the appearance of similar crop circles in Indian fields.

There have also been reports of a young boy that is fluent in Portuguese being cast. What could explain the eclectic ethnicity? Maybe the crop formations serve as portals that mysteriously transport people to other locations where the circles exist. We won't know for sure until Signs arrives in theaters next year -IGN.com

Old news...

If you've been keeping up with M. Night Shyamalan's next film, Signs, you'll know that the story is set on a farm in rural Pennsylvania. The film's producers have been conducting an exhaustive search of area's farmland and have just selected a shooting location. According to an Associated Press story published this morning, Signs will shoot at Doylestown, Pennsylvania's Delaware Valley College.

Signs tells what happens when a 500-foot array of circles and lines mysteriously appears on a family farm. Mel Gibson is starring as the farmer alongside actor Mark Ruffalo (You Can Count on Me). No other casting announcements have been made at this time, except for a casting call for young actors to play Gibson's 10-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter.

Delaware Valley College, a school known for its agricultural program, was selected because of the abundance of nearby cornfields. The school has rented 100 acres used by their agricultural department.

The school's president, Dr. Thomas Leamer, told AP, "Our biggest concern is that when they leave, they leave the fields the way they found them. That's part of the agreement."

The students are a little more enthusiastic. Mitzi Weikel says, "Everyone knows he's coming and all the girls are waiting!"

Signs is expected to start shooting in the area in September.
